This is our first "Home Page" style web site and was first published in July of 2004.  After having worked at Cisco Systems for several years now, I guess it's about time that I setup a website for us just to make sure that I know how to do it, so here it is!  As you will see, it's mostly about our house here, the projects we do, the toys we play with and the fun we have at Chester River Beach all year round!  I did a short survey with my colleagues at work, and found that they all had a website, so now I'm gonna have one!  It has all the components of a "real" website like frame pages with scrolling bodies, a nested menu structure, feedback, guestbook, search & sitemap pages, photos, slide shows and embedded and downloadable video!

Friends & family can visit to see our latest photos and projects and sign the guestbook along the way!

Microsoft FrontPageThe HTML pages for the site are written with a kind of Word processor program called Microsoft FrontPage. This is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) program that I found on my Cisco PC.  This saves almost any contact with HTML although I find that there are a few places where I have to touch it to make it do what I want.  All the pages in the site are divided into three frames with a fixed banner at the top, a fixed sidebar where I put the menus and a scrollable body, so each page is in fact four pages!  The menus in the sidebars are made from individual FrontPage Hover buttons that load the selected frame page in the whole page of the users browser, or just load a different sidebar page with a different menu into the sidebar frame of the current window.  This is the only way I have found of having a structure of menus where some sub menus don't need a full page.  I find this quite unbelievable, the FrontPage Navigation components just don't support this!  On October 14th 2004, this was changed so that all the pages use FrontPage navigation bars as described in the log below.Go Daddy!

The site is hosted by Go Daddy where I get a full gigabyte of server space for just $9.95 a month.  I started with 50 Megs at $3.95 a month, but that soon got used up with all the pictures!  They are so cheap yet it has been working fine and they are quick to answer any questions, so I can recommend them.

The site is tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0.28 with a screen size of 1024 x 768.  I know that many users have largerMicrosoft Internet Explorer screens these days but I still prefer my 1024 X 768 laptop LCD and I don't have any easy way to test it with a larger setting!  If you have any comments or advice about this, please let me know.  I do have one screen that is 1280 X 720 but that's another story!  I have tried some of the pages with Netscape version 7.1 and have found a number of issues including having to manually install the Java Runtime to get the FrontPage hover buttons to work and the fact that Netscape doesn't know how to play a simple .avi video file without a load of trouble!  So I guess you get the picture!  I would be more inclined to look more at Netscape if their HTML Composer was half as good as FrontPage, but it's not.  If you find anything annoying about the way the site works or that you know how to fix, please let me know.

Thanks for looking! /Adrian..

Removed the sunburst effect FrontPage hover buttons and put back the navigation link bars this time using a simpler and thinner bar matching the colors of the site.  On some systems the hover buttons were not working because of Java issues and they were slow to load.  It also appeared that some people didn't even know they were buttons because the cursor did not change to a hand when the mouse was over them!  The problem with the navigation link bars is that they don't support target frames so now every menu option needs a whole page which I have also added, so there are now no longer independent submenus.
